First Post: About Me

Hello World!

First of all: Congratulations, out of 82946262738 blogs on this planet you made it to the blog of a 19 year old girl from Cologne, Germany! My name is Esther, well it’s actually Esther Lioba Niess. Yeah, I don’t know what my parents were thinking either…

In October 2017 I first had the idea of starting a blog, however it took me another three months until I actually started it. Why? Because if I do something, especially if I start something new, I want it to be perfect. Obviously my blog is still far from perfect, but I wanted to have some kind of plan, I wanted to have a concept, I wanted to actually think this through. Then, unfortunately something very tragic happened in my life which knocked me out for a few weeks. And even though I’m still dealing with it, I needed a fresh start and a change. I feel the need to share my thoughts, opinions, experiences and memories with the world, not only because I think certain things just need to be said, but also so I can get it off my chest. So that being said, I would say half of my blog is dedicated to myself. The other half is dedicated to every single person who decides to take some time out of their (probably very busy) day to read what I’m posting on this blog. Hopefully I will be able to share my experiences with other people and maybe even help or inspire them. I would also love to hear all of your opinions and to get to chat with you!

Since I just started my blog I can’t guarantee that I will actually post about all of these things on a regular basis, but the subjects I planned on posting about were mainly:

1. My thoughts and opinions – There are a few topics that I think are very important and that should be talked about, especially when it comes to my generation. There are also a few things that I experienced in my life and at that time I didn’t know anyone close to me who had the same experiences (other than my family of course) and I think reading a blog about someone who went through the same stuff would have helped me at that time. I would like to be able to help other people and to maybe even give some advice.

2. Beauty and Hacks – I discovered Makeup rather late compared to the girls I knew. I think I was 14 or 15 when I first put on mascara daily, and (unfortunately) I didn’t worry about my eyebrows at all until I was 17 (”eyebrows on fleek” wasn’t really a thing before that). At 17 I started to become very interested in Makeup, I started out with Eyeliner and cheap Eyeshadow and then slowly worked my way up. Now I would say I’m pretty decent when it comes to Beauty, I am not a Makeup Artist in any way but I do have some experience with it that I want to share. I am still learning and I am not perfect at all, but it’s my passion and I enjoy it a lot. And hey, practice makes perfect, right?

3. Travel – I have always loved traveling! I was lucky enough to have two amazing parents who also enjoy traveling which is why I got to go on at least one vacation a year. I don’t think I ever didn’t enjoy traveling. Sure, there have been some places that I don’t necessarily have to go back to, but it was always an adventure! There’s one other country that I can call my second home now: The United States. I was able to go to the US when I was 15 for the first time and that wasn’t enough, so after High School I decided to spend a year abroad as an Au Pair. I lived in Mount Lebanon, which is very close to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and it was the best experience of my life. I also got to travel a lot within the US and I feel like every adventure just makes me want to go on more adventures! On this blog, I would love to not only create a travel diary but to also talk about my experiences, my favorite places, what to do in certain cities/countries, etc. so I can hopefully help you out with that as well.

4. Photography – My dad and I started taking pictures and filming videos when I was about 2 years old. I don’t think there was ever a time when I did not enjoy taking pictures and creating videos. At one point in High School it was ”cool” to have a really good Canon camera, I didn’t have one myself but my two best friends did. So my friend and I were outside taking pictures, sometimes enduring temperatures below 0°, all the time just to get a good shot. I always secretly wanted one of those cameras as well but after I got my iPhone 6s, which does take nice pictures, I didn’t really think about it that much anymore. So I didn’t get a Canon until last Christmas, and I am IN LOVE. I’m not a complete beginner because I do have some experiences with my friend’s and boyfriend’s camera, but I still learn something new every day. I do share most of my pictures on Instagram, but I thought I could combine that with my travel addiction on my blog.

I hope I was able to give you an insight into the content I would like to share with you. I still have to figure out how often I am going to post, considering I am a college student and I have a lot going on in my life at the moment. I am going to be posting in English, simply because I love the language, because I think I will be able to reach a lot more people than I would if I posted in German and because that way some of my friends who don’t speak German will be able to understand what I’m saying. However, there might be an occasional post in German if it’s about a topic that only applies to Germany or my fellow Ger-men and Ger-women (I’m funny, I know). I am not an English native speaker so I apologize for any mistakes I might have made, I hope you’ll still enjoy my posts 😛

If there is anything you would like to know about me or my blog, feel free to ask! I know I already talked a lot (better get used to it, I’m a chatterbox, according to my English teacher) but I might not have mentioned something that you would really like to know about me, so don’t be shy!

Have a wonderful day/night/afternoon/evening/morning and I’ll see you soon!

Love, Esther
