10 underrated songs you NEED to listen to!

Whenever we think of a certain artist we immediately think of their most famous songs. When I say ”Lady Gaga” you think about ”Poker Face, Paparazzi, Telephone”, when I say ”Ariana Grande” you think about ”Problem, Break free, Dangerous Woman”, when I say ”Rihanna” you think about ”Umbrella, Diamonds, Only Girl”. But what about the songs that nobody really knows about unless you’re a big fan and you actually listen to the whole entire album? Personally I realized that I like a lot of those ”unknown” songs better and I’m still wondering why some of those didn’t become a single! So here are 10 underrated songs that you need to listen to!

Disclaimer: The songs that I’m going to mention weren’t really famous here in Germany, so this is really just my personal opinion. That might be different in other countries, depending on where you are from.

1.Everglow – Coldplay

Who doesn’t know ”A sky full of stars” or ”Viva la vida”? These songs are timless and being played a lot, at least on the German radio. I found this song only a few days ago and I absolutely love it. Even though you can tell that it’s Coldplay it’s a little different than their other songs. Very catchy but also touching at the same time.

2. Free fallin’ – John Mayer (originally by Tom Petty)

If you’re a little older or a Tom Petty fan you probably know this song. But have you ever heard the John Mayer cover? I absolutely adore that man’s voice, I feel like he poured his whole heart into this song. This song will give you the chills, I promise you.

3. How not to – Dan + Shay

Now, some of my American readers might know this song because was kinda famous in the US (at least when I was there) and it’s also a country band. I don’t like all kinds of country music but I really enjoy Dan + Shay!

4. Kiss it better – Rihanna

Good ole Rihanna.. That woman probably can’t even count all the number 1 singles she’s had. Sure, her dance songs are very catchy and great to dance to but I think her voice kinda drowns in them sometimes. Rihanna has such a beautiful, almost vulnerable sounding voice which is why personally I prefer her slow songs. This is one of them and it was also combined with some guitar sounds which makes it sound completely different compared to the other songs she released!

5. Thinking ’bout you – Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande is one of my favorite singers at the moment and I think she is one of the best young female singers nowadays, if not the best. I saw her live twice and they were the best concerts I’ve ever been to. That lady can sing! I’m pretty sure she can’t not hit the right note. ”Thinking ’bout you” is one of my favorite Ariana songs, her voice sounds beautiful, the instrumental part is great as well. I get the chills every time I listen to it. Ariana, if you’re reading this: Make this a single!!!!

6. The cure – Lady Gaga

This song was played on the radio sometimes and a lot of people do know about it but it still doesn’t compare to hits like ”Just Dance” or ”Poker Face”. Lady Gaga has changed a lot over the past few years, her new album ”Joanne” was completely different from everything she’s ever done but I love it! It really brings out her voice and it proves that Lady Gaga doesn’t need all that electronic stuff and autotune: She isn’t just an amazing singer but also a great musician. ”The cure” is definitely my favorite song from that album.

7. Colors – Halsey

Halsey’s career basically exploded in 2017, especially after releasing ”Closer” with The Chainsmokers. In 2016, before she was famous, I was able to see her perform her first album ”Badlands” and it was amazing! ”Colors” was my favorite song by far, especially because of the lyrics. I do like the ”Hopeless Fountain Kingdom” kind of music, but I do think ”Colors” kind of represents the old Halsey style.

8. The night we met – Lord Huron

If you watched 13 reasons why, you probably know this song (Hannah and Clay danced to it, remember?). This band is not super popular but this song is great. It’s a little different from the music I usually listen to but I enjoy this song a lot.

9. Die a happy man – Thomas Rhett

Again, if you’re from the US you probably know this song, so this goes out to my European friends: It is officially country music, yes, but I promise you: This is the ultimate love song. It doesn’t get any more beautiful than this. It’s a really simple song, he only uses some guitar and drum sounds and of course his voice. If you’re looking for the perfect wedding song: here it is!

10. When I look at you – Miley Cyrus

My fellow Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus fans probably know this song but if you don’t: You need to listen to this. You might have some prejudices when it comes to Miley but believe me, this is neither like one of her Disney songs nor like that Bangerzzz/We can’t stop phase that she went through. Lyrics, voice and instruments are all amazing and I believe this should have been a Number 1 song. This is and will always be my favorite Miley Cyrus song.
