Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette – Review

You’re looking for a wide range of shimmer shades, all in one palette? You want a high quality palette? You’re willing to spend quite a bit of money on it? Then THIS is the right product for you: The Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette.

Quick Facts:

  • This palette contains 20 shimmer shades, crazy colors like blue, green, gold and purple as well as neutral everyday shades
  • It is 57,99 Euros (in Germany) and $55 in the US
  • That basically means you’re paying 2,90 Euros and $2.75 for each shade
  • It comes with a mirror
The package

This is what the actual palette looks like. Since this palette is a little different than other eyeshadow palettes and you can’t ”fold” it there’s something like a case in order to protect the shades. To get access to the shades you simply push it out of the case from left to right.

This is what the left side of the palette looks like or, as I call it, the crazy glam side.

I swatched all the colors from the crazy glam side by starting with the shade ”ground” at the bottom and then working myself up: Ground, Aluminum, Spandex, Dive, Metalhead, Punk Rock, Mullet, AMP, Twisted, Glamrock. I used my fingers to swatch these since I always use my fingers to apply shimmer shades anyways.

The most pigmented shade: AMP and Glamrock

The least pigmented shade: Aluminum

My personal favorites: AMP and Punk Rock

Here’s what the swatches look like using a flash. Excuse my arm hair. Yes, girls have arm hair too.
This is what the right side of the palette looks like, the neutral everyday side.

Again, I used my fingers and I started by swatching the shade ”Bass” at the bottom. So from the bottom to the top: Bass, Glory, Demo, Starfire, Afterparty, Angelfire, Roadie, Maiden, Scream, Acoustic.

The most pigmented shade: Afterparty

The least pigmented shade: To be honest, the rest of the shades are pretty much the same

My personal favorites: Scream, Angelfire, Starfire

What the swatches look like when using a flash.

I am in love with this palette. It has every shade that I could ever dream of, I honestly don’t think I will ever need to buy another shimmery palette. You can use this palette for neutral, everyday makeup looks but you could also rock some of these crazy shades at fancy events like prom. On top of that, even the least pigmented shades are still super pigmented. I also think the price is okay since you get 20 shades and they’re ALL really high quality colors. The only thing that I don’t like that much is the fact that you can’t ”fold” the palette so it’s definitely not a palette you can travel with and just put in your purse. But other than that: The perfect shimmer shades palette. Great job, Urban Decay!

Have you ever tried this palette? Are you thinking about buying it as well? If you have any question, leave a comment or dm me on my social media!

Thanks so much for reading!

Love, Esther
